‘(50.907996, -1.405025)’, 2025 (concrete, thermoplastic)

I displayed ‘(50.907996, -1.405025)’ with ZING (ZEST Inclusive Group) for their annual exhibition in Guildhall Square, Southampton. Titled ‘View to Somewhere’, the exhibition focused on themes of perspective, displayed in and around two shipping containers.

‘(50.907996, -1.405025)’ reimagines the top-down perspective of the roads surrounding Guildhall Square. Derived from a map, it reflects the area’s urban layout, with an indented square marking the sculpture’s location—serving as a map of its surroundings.
The piece is an abstract representation of the city, with thermoplastic markings on its concrete surface alluding to boundaries and divisions, referencing systems of urban control. This ongoing project explores urban imperfections and the silent markers that shape our interactions with cities.
By presenting an aerial view of a familiar area, it encourages a shift in perspective, challenging perceptions of boundaries and predetermined divisions that define urban landscapes.
