‘Urban Code reimagines the aesthetic nuances of road markings, scrutinising familiar geometries and colours within urban landscapes. Drawing inspiration from an ongoing street photography series, the cast concrete objects with overlying thermoplastic tape are reconstructions of forms and textures often overlooked in city infrastructure. They observe the gradual deterioration and fading of road markings, a result of continual street activity and prolonged neglect over time.

A traditionally permanent method of codified road signage is transformed into sculptural objects that decorate the indentations and contours of abstract concrete shapes. Beneath these surface aesthetics lies a representation of the infrastructure that regulates our behaviour, dictating movement and time allocation within urban spaces. In celebrating the art of road-lining, street painting (a metropolitan tool for organising traffic) is transformed into formal expressions that challenge the original functionality of materials that surround us in our everyday lives.’
