'The Maze of Sunken Liberty', 2023 (concrete, steel, found objects)

A scheme by ‘A-Space Arts’, offering 10 local artists in Southampton with £500 to fund their practice. The work produced is displayed in an exhibition in God’s House Tower. I used the bursary to fund the materials for my Final Major Project, and I displayed work from my degree show in the exhibition. This opportunity has introduced me to artists in the local creative community.

Extracts of my speech from the exhibition opening launch event:
“As I navigate the streets of Southampton, I am drawn to the small imperfections in infrastructure that often go unnoticed. This installation both represents and replicates instances of neglected deterioration, while also serving as a critique of the structural failures that underlie these issues.”
“This installation is a dialogue between industrial materials and the urban environment, a representation of a world built cheaply and carelessly. It is not a lament for the failures of the past, but a celebration for the potential for disobedience, for change, and for reclaiming our own narratives in a built environment that was not created to serve us.”
